Seeing a rear-facing baby
A back-seat mirror straps to the rear headrest and shows a rear-facing child in your rear-view mirror. Fit it before the first solo drive and angle it while parked; a mirror you adjust on the motorway is worse than no mirror.
Buy shatter-resistant acrylic, which every proper baby mirror is, and check the straps stay tight month to month.
Sun where you do not want it
Car window shades cut glare and heat on the side where the seat sits. Cling film styles leave no marks and move between cars; roller styles cover more glass on bigger windows. Either way, put the shade on the sunny side before the trip, because reaching back at speed is exactly the maneuver everything in this note exists to avoid.
On the stroller, a clip-on shade or parasol follows the sun in a way a fixed canopy cannot. Look for ones that grip round and oval tubing both.
Harnesses and escape artists
Some toddlers treat a stroller harness as a puzzle. Anti-escape clips and chest pads keep the buckles where small thumbs cannot work them and pad the straps where they rub.
For walking-age children in crowds, a wrist link or backpack harness is an honest tool, not a leash joke: it gives a child a few feet of independence in exactly the places where a bolting two-year-old is fastest.
The bag of small saviors
Stroller hooks carry the shopping so the handlebar does not tip the frame. A blanket clip keeps the blanket on the child instead of on the pavement behind you. None of it is glamorous, and all of it is what gets used daily.
Keep the travel kit packed in the car boot as a set. Gear that lives where it is used actually gets used.
